September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows supports the courageous efforts of the millions of victims of paramilitary groups and state crimes in Colombia. On March 6, they along with millions of their supporters across the world will march to pay homage to the victims of displacement, disappearances, massacres, and executions. For too long the plight of these victims has not been acknowledged and they deserve the support of all peace-loving people.
We recognize the contributions of the U.S. government to the violence in Colombia, where paramilitary organizations regularly collaborate with the armed forces. Thus we call upon the U.S. government to withdraw all military aid to the Colombian government and to support a peaceful solution to the conflict. We also call upon all Colombian armed groups guerillas, paramilitary, and the government to cease using violence to further their goals and to commit to negotiation, democratic solutions, the rule of law, and an end to the terror that Colombians have suffered for 44 years.
September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows is an organization founded by family members of those killed on September 11th who have united to turn our grief into action for peace. By developing and advocating nonviolent options and actions in the pursuit of justice, we hope to break the cycles of violence engendered by war and terrorism. Acknowledging our common experience with all people affected by violence throughout the world, we work to create a safer and more peaceful world for everyone.
