Latin Americans and Others March Against Terrorism

February 4th, 2008

On February 4, 2008 millions of Colombians, other Latin Americans, and their friends will march in 140 cities around the world in protest against the actions of the FARC (The Revolutionary Armed Forces in Columbia), the biggest terrorist group in the Americas.

September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows supports and applauds the courageous efforts of these people, and calls for all sides -- guerrillas, paramilitary, and government -- to cease using violence to further their goals, and commit to negotiation, democratic solutions, the rule of law, and an end to the terror Columbians have suffered for 44 years.

The following information and statement was received from Sofia Gaviria Correa, who's brother, an elected regional governor in Columbia, was kidnapped and ultimately killed by the FARC.  Sofia and her organization are members of the International Network for Peace.

The meeting point in New York is the United Nations in Manhattan, 46th Street and First Avenue at 12 noon. Information for all U.S. cities at: http://www.Colombiasoyyo.org/puntos.html

(February 1, 2008) On February 4, 2008 millions of Latin Americans will march in 140 cities around the world to protest against the actions of the Colombian terrorist group FARC. In the United States, the march will take place in 35 cities across the country, including New York, Washington DC, Boston, Dallas, Miami, and Seattle.

The New York event will be held in front of the United Nations Building at 12.00pm EST. Organisers have spoken to several Latino leaders in the city who wholly support the cause and are mobilising their communities to join the march and show their solidarity with Colombians against the terrorist group FARC. The event has the support of the New York city council.

This initiative is the brainchild of 6 young Colombians who, on January 4th of this year, opened a group named "A million voices against the FARC" on the popular social network site Facebook, to petition for an end to terrorism, violence, kidnapping, and the FARC in Colombia. Word spread about the group on the website and is now >over 250,000 strong.

The worldwide march against the FARC sprung organically from the creation of this group and the long-repressed need to cry out to the world about the dangers of this terrorist organization which has reduced Colombia to a perpetual state of violence for 44 years.

This is a historic event where millions of Colombians around the world will mobilize for the first time united in a common cause. The FARC is the biggest terrorist group in the Americas, the largest cocaine cartel in the world, the world's foremost users of landmines and have criminal and narcotics operations in several countries in the region.
